It’s amazing how we can change a few things in a space and they can completely alter the look and feel of the room, which ultimately can affect our emotions and actions in that environment,
For example: In Winter, if you turn on your fireplace, light up a favorite apple crisp candle and play some soft Michel Buble Christmas music, the room instantly is warmer, cozier and a bit more magical. If you are anything like me, you would probably want to snuggle on your couch with a soft blanket and read a book that you have been dying to finish. Isn't it amazing how slight physical changes to the space lifted our mood!
As we officially enter summer, why not use this idea to spruce up various rooms in your home?
Here are three simple things to consider:
1. Fresh and Airy Fabrics
Some of the fabrics that you should consider are linen and cotton. These materials are perfect for summer because of how they are made. They are intercalated with natural fibers that are breathable and airy, which is helpful for staying cool in those hot summer days.
2. Bring Nature Inside
Welcoming fresh cut flowers and greenery inside changes the atmosphere and feel of your home. Here are some ideas of fresh cuts and plants to incorporate:

Flowers
Hydrangeas
These flowers are stunning because they are big and can fill a vase. Plus, the detail of the smaller flowers give it such a delicate and soft look.
Peonies
The bloom on these flowers are breathtaking. You can find them in various colors: whites, blush and fuchsia. They add a touch of sophistication, freshness and summer vibes.

Plants
Coffee Plant
These have such a vibrant deep green leaf and they are easy to take care of.
Snake Plant
The form and shape of this plant allows for it to be used in small spaces and corners that need to come to live.
Pilea Plant
This plant has a beautiful and simple rounded leaf. Inside a beautiful planter pot this plant can give you such a fresh look in your home.
3. Less is more.
A decluttered space makes a room feel open, clean and fresh. Take the time this summer to assess what is happening in your home and come up with systems that will work for your family to help keep the space tidy (i.e. wicker baskets for blankets, decorative boxes for remote controls, stylish containers to keep all your children’s toys.)

In Atomic Habit, the author James Clearn makes the following statement “Your clutter is a lagging measure of your cleaning habits.” We usually make it a goal to keep things tidy but when we don't have a systems in place this is what James Clear has to say about it. "You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." When you put systems in place you will more likely maintain a decluttered space, which ultimately leads to your space looking and feeling open, clean and fresh.
Let's dive in to see how we can implement these three tips in your home.
The Bedroom
In this picture from @TruthandCodesign, we can see all three ways you can freshen up your bedroom for the summer. The bedding that they used is from Serena and Lily. This particular set is made from linen which is the ideal material for those hot summer nights. Notice the airy and fresh colors that were used to complete this look- sky blue, creams, whites and grays. All of these are perfect to use in your space.
If you liked this duvet cover here are some similar styles from Target.
I love the simplicity of this room, which captures the “less is more” tip very well. The night stands are decluttered and the bed is simply and beautifully made up.
Don’t forget cheerful and delicate flowers or plants to bring some nature into your space.

Here is another example from one of our own room makeovers. Below are some similar items to shop this room.
The Living Room

Wildflower Home did such an amazing job with her living room. One of the things that she loves to do is change little details of her home for every season. This example includes all the suggestions we talked about.
She brought nature inside in such a stunning and subtle way. Notice the planters. They complement the room so well.
We see here again the use of those light blues, creams and whites in the accent pillows and throws. It’s calming and relaxing, just how summer should be.
Lastly, we see how neat and tidy this place is. Everything has its spot and it's not overloaded with decor.
The Kitchen

Our last room we are looking at is the kitchen, the heart of the home.
One of the best ways to welcome summer into this space is with fresh cut flowers. There is nothing more charming and appealing than having them in your home.
One of my all-time favorite places to shop for fresh cut flowers is from your local Trader Joes. Pro Tip: Shop early in the morning to get the best selection.
Lastly, implement some great systems in your kitchen so that it stays nice and tidy. Because we spend so much time in the kitchen, this is the room of the house that gets messy the quickest. What are you using the most of? Could they be organized neatly inside a decorative container so that you can quickly put away when finished? Just a thought!
Here is another stunning kitchen example from Truth and Co.
BONUS TIP: FRESHEN UP YOUR SPACE WITH A SUMMER SCENT.
There is something special and unique about the power of our sense of smell. It truly has the magical ability to take us to peaceful and restful places. Here are some of my favorite candles and oils recipes so that you may fill your home with the fresh aroma of Summer!
Candle
Capri Blue Candle from Anthropology is one of my favorite Summer candles.
Make sure the container of the candle also coordinates with your space!
If you are ever in Homegoods or TJ-Maxx, two of my favorite candles there are Scentsational Storm or Tangerine Guava.

Essential Oils Diffuser
For my essential oils lovers, I have two summer mixes that I know you and your family will adore.
Citrus Lavender
4 drops of Lavender
3 Drops of lime
1 drop of Lemon Grass
Jasmine Lavender
4 drops of Lavender
2 drops of Geranium
