There’s no better feeling than coming home to a freshly cleaned house. Sometimes just a simple reminder of that feeling is enough motivation to set some time apart for a meaningful deep cleaning. Eliminating clutter can transform your home into a space with purpose. So if you are in for some Spring Cleaning, keep reading for some tips on how to strategize for your cleaning day!

Prepping the Space
For me, I have to get in the zone to clean my home. So I like to reserve a whole day for this, typically Saturday or Sunday, and let myself enjoy it by taking my time. I’ll start by preparing everything I’ll need and taking out all my supplies, light one of my favorite candles, turn on my Spotify playlist, and then I’m ready to get going.
✨ Enjoy the process- Instead of looking at all that needs to be done, enjoy what you get to do. Having a grateful attitude can make the process, dare I say, fun. Also, in order to make all the tasks seem more manageable, break the large jobs into smaller ones. Keep your eyes on the prize and trust that it will all get finished!
✨ Out With The Old- Take out some garbage bags and fill them with items you and your family have outgrown. This is a very necessary step before you start because it will declutter the space and leave you with a fresh space to clean. You will immediately feel the difference in the space!
P.S Decide where you will want to donate all your items prior to starting. This way you’re not creating more clutter as your piles of donations build up.
✨ Make a List- Walk through your home and look at what areas you need to prioritize. Cleaning up the cluttered spaces that have been annoying you the most will give you the satisfaction & motivation to continue to move forward. Organizing Essentials
Who says staying organized has to be difficult? No professional organizer can get by without some of their secret weapons. Something as simple as baskets or sticker labels can be an incredible lifesaver. Here are my top 10 organization essentials!
1. Stackable Drawers- This handy item works perfectly to store items in places like under-the-sink or closet. This adds great storage and comes in a variety of sizes too.
2. Wicker and Woven Baskets- This a big favorite of mine! These baskets are useful and beautiful for decor at the same time. I like to use these to store linens, rolled-up towels, or for pantry organizing.
3. See-through Bins- You can never go wrong with these. They can be used for makeup organizers, art supply storage, fridge compartments, to pantry organizers. The possibilities are endless.
4. Paper Shredder- This is great to put in an office to get rid of any sort of junk mail or documents you don’t need on hand anymore.
5. Shoe Organizer- Ditch the mixing and matching shoe game and grab yourself a shoe organizer. This will not only help keep them together but also keep your shoes from wearing out faster.
6. Hooks- Perfect for hanging keys, purses, and coats. If you don’t want to damage any walls you can opt for adhesive, removable ones or the hooks that hang over door frames instead.
7. Label Maker- If you are an organizational lover this one is for you. This handy tool is wonderfully helpful for keeping track of what goes where and what belongs to whom.
8. Shelves- Adding shelves on a wall is a great way to maximize space and display decor.
9. Trays- If you have any cluttered areas like a coffee corner or vanity, adding in a tray will help create separation and give a unique touch to your area.
10. Glass Jars/Containers- This is the ultimate food storage for pantry organizing. I love to use them for storing baking items, pasta, rice, and cereal.
11. Dresser Organizer- Avoid cluttered cubbies by placing dividers to separates your socks, intimates, and T-shirts. This makes getting ready effortless. You'll be able to find everything you need quickly.
12. Cube Organizer- You can use these for about anything! They can go in your closet, an entertainment center, entryway table, or storage closet. The best part about them is that you can use the cube space to decorate, store, or both. I like to have a mix of both and add wicker baskets for storage.
13. Rolly Cart- You can set this up as a coffee cart, art supply storage, or a bar cart for entertainment. It’s cute and convenient!
14. Matching Hangers- This item alone can transform your entire closet. Having a consistent hanger will make it easier on the eye and lets your clothes stand out. I personally love the velvet nonslip kind so I never have to worry about keeping my clothes on the hanger.
15. Corkboard/Peg Board- This one can be really fun! Create a hub for the home, where you can exchange notes with one another! Put up important dates and memorable photos on here too. This can also be a great jewelry organizer because it will keep your accessories from tangling altogether.
Common Organizing Mistakes
We want to clean smarter not harder! Before diving in, take a look through these common mistakes and see if there are things you can change or improve for a more effective Spring Cleaning!
✨ Stashing "Out of Sight Out of Mind"- I'm sure we've all heard this phrase before but chances are if you follow this rule you're holding on to items you don't need or possibly don't even know you have. Even if you have the space for it, it's best to keep items you only use.
✨ Not Giving Your Items a Home- A handy item like scissors can be used in many rooms, which means if you forget to put them away in a certain place it can be very easy to lose them. After something's been used, it's important to bring it back to its home. So make sure each thing has its own place and this will eliminate lost items and acquiring duplicates of things you already have.
✨ Holding on to Outgrown Items- It can be difficult to let go of things, especially when they may have sentimental memories attached to them. However, you can find freedom when downsizing. Believe me when I tell you that you and your family will feel like a weight has been lifted when you declutter and let your space simply breathe.
We hope you found this insightful and now you feel motivated to Spring Clean! Don't forget to have fun with it and treat yourself afterward because you deserve it!
