We are so excited to share a peak behind the scenes on the Highcrest project! Although our end goal is to bring our clients' vision to life, we also desire to delight them during the process as well. Both the journey and destination are important. Reveal day is like the anticipation you get on Christmas morning. To get to that point, however, can also be super interesting. So without further ado, here's a brief glimpse into that story.
Our client, Kat, had the vision of creating a welcoming and fresh environment that could also inspire and motivate her every day. She also strived to have a space that could reflect her personality (elegant, sophisticated, warm) while making a beautiful statement.
" When we make our art a practice, when we make our workspace sacred and enter it daily with respect and high intention, then we elevate our actions. "
- Steven Pressfield
Setting the Scene
Our goal | Ground the space and create a wow factor with walls.
✨ Grounding the space- Kat originally had a rug that blended in with the floors while bringing out all the warm oranges and yellows of the room. Although these colors can certainly be beautiful in certain spaces, we wanted to incorporate cooler tones that feel brighter and enable one to more easily focus. The rug we used grounded the space beautifully and made the room feel much lighter and tranquil.
Q: What does it mean to ground a space?
A: The ability to balance a space, filling in spacial void with complementary and stylish design. In this case, the rug had light shades of white, grey, green which we were able to embellish in other items throughout the space.
✨ Design elements-We drew inspiration from our client and her needs! She loves the color black and really wanted us to find a way to use it in her space. This inspired us to incorporate a moody color palette throughout the space and have the walls make their own statement by painting it black with a white board and batten.
Design Tip: Painting your ceiling a dark color can create the illusion of more height. Then, adding the white paneling can balance everything out by breaking up the dark colors.
It's all about the details
Our Goal | To balance out the bold walls, we wanted to bring in some homey details to make it warm and cozy.
✨ Cozy details - Now that we made a statement it was time to bring on the details! We incorporated items that made sense functionally while also making her feel comfortable and right at home, including some of her favorite books, a warm fuzzy throw blanket, a lush yet sophisticated reading chair, a fresh floral arrangement, and a few sentimental things.
✨ Lion and the Lamb frames - Kat had these beautiful Lion and Lamb framed photos and she wanted to see if we could find a way to incorporate them into the new space. They ended up being the perfect pieces to the puzzle! We used them in her new bookshelf cabinet, and it was exactly what it needed to create height and contrast to the gray colors.
✨ Original Painting - The artwork we chose for Kat's office, along with every detail in a design, was something carefully thought out and planned. We opted to take a more original approach and had one of our designers, who's also an artist, paint an original painting specially made for Kat's office. From the colors to the texture, every brushstroke was intentionally tailored for our client's space.
Wrapping it up
Closing out this project was bitter-sweet, to say the least. This design was very special for us because we got to use our creativity to make a space that was designed to inspire our client to do what she does best. Kat was an incredible person to work, she knew what she wanted broadly speaking but gave us the freedom to create. We are beyond happy that Kat gets to enjoy the new office of her dreams. She now has her own space that reflects her personality and in which she can feel motivated to accomplish anything.
Welcome to your new office Kat! We wish you and your family the best! ✨
