Color Trends For 2021

Updated: Jul 13, 2021

Benjamin Moore recently announced the color of the year and color palette trends of 2021 and can I just say - what a palette! I personally love how the colors all complement each other and work together so well but can still stand alone so elegantly.

Our team recently attended the High Point Market in North Carolina and we saw some pretty exciting things along with the incorporation of this exquisite palette in most of the shops we visited. It was quite the trend. We saw everything from rugs to throw pillows pulling in some of the beautiful blues and cream tones and then some hinting at the warm colors as well.

We wanted to take a similar approach to this trend to show you some fun and unique ideas to incorporate these colors into your home!

Color is personal

Sometimes we gravitate towards colors that naturally help us feel more at peace or embrace a memory. Look at each room and notice how it makes you feel and ask yourself what purpose do you want to give it. Keep in mind how you want it to flow with the rest of the house while still making it unique.

I like to pick one to three different colors that speak to me and are used from the main areas of the house and then pull them in by differentiating it through other elements like texture and pattern.

✨  Looking at the trend palette for 2021, I find soft blues and grays to be soothing colors and bright white and cream colors are a huge staple and can go with almost any other color.

Here’s an example

We stopped by @amityhome and they specialize in everything cozy from comforters, bed sheets, linens, throws, to rugs. But what really caught our attention was the lovely palette of blue tones and light grays. They differentiate their similar colors by using different patterns and textures as you can see here in the photos. Adding any piece with these colors to your home will help give out a sense of peace and calmness.

Making a statement

✨  You can make a color an accent piece by contrasting it to the main colors of the room while still complementing each other. Using black hardware in a bright-colored room is a great way to break up the whites and allows for it pop out more

✨  Another way to do this is by looking at what you have. Say you have a rug that has some subtle hints of dark blue, you can pull from that and incorporate that dark blue in another piece like the pillows. This allows for the whole look to tie in together and feel complete.

Here we have two different looks, on the left, we have a farmhouse space put together by @graceinmyspace and on the right, we have a more modern style by @jfrancois_et_moi. I love how @graceinmyspace brilliantly uses the Potters Clay color in her pillows and baskets that perfectly ties in with the hardwood floors and front door. And for @francois_et_moi they incorporated black framing and curtain rods that excellently contrast from the white walls

Light and Airy

For those of you that love a clean and neutral palette, we have something for you too! A palette that consists of whites and cream can convey elegance and peacefulness which goes wonderfully in any space you’d like.

✨ A beautiful way to contrast a light color palette is by adding in some light wooden tones. This way it adds depth and contrast but still keeping it in the same color family

✨ One way to do this is by bringing in some wicker baskets or wooden chests into the space! This can allow you to bring out a hint of different tone and texture while getting a great storage space.

This lovely kitchen on the left displays a distinct palette of whites and wooden tones. I love how they brought in different elements of neutral colors with the dome wicker light fixtures which ties perfectly with the gorgeous rug by @armadilloandco. On the right, we found this unique display put on by @diralife at High Point market. Putting up wicker baskets on the walls is a clever way to display the different patterns and textures.
